Where To Eat in Dagupan: Gino's Sisig

What is all these buzz about Gino’s Sisig Dagupan? Is it the Lechon de Cebu? The affordable price? Location? Or - all of the above? Find out here as I get to have a one-on-one interview with the man behind this successful food business!

Lechon De Cebu. It was March 2009 when the then 22-year old Gino Largo first came to Dagupan City from Cebu. His job as a sales representative of one of the industry’s most respected milk brands already brought him to many places in the country. He did well during his first few months stay here in Dagupan, but like everyone who’s been away from home for too long, he was already getting homesick. To ease the pain, he searched for restaurants that serve Cebu Lechon. He tried and searched again, but to his dismay, nothing seemed to satisfy his authentic taste. That’s when the idea to put up his own lechon business was conceived, and on December 2009  “Grill Hauz” was introduced to all Dagupenos.

According to him, #GinosLechon recipe came from his father  - Mr. Rodney Largo. However, it never crossed his mind that he will someday be successful in the same line of business.

“When I was in college, my dad had a lechon business in Cebu. I was never interested in it, but I know all the ingredients and the prep procedures because I watch the workers do it every single day.” He added.
But what makes their Lechon De Cebu authentic?

“There are ingredients that only come from Cebu City, sent via courier or I, myself, bring from there.” He answered. “And we are very proud to be the first authentic Lechon Belly De Cebu in North Luzon.”

I also learned that even the head cooks are imports from Cebu and are pure Cebuanos themselves. Today, Gino’s Sisig has two branches in Dagupan City alone. One at Perez Boulevard in front of Victory Liner bus terminal and the other is doing an outstanding sales performance at Tramo Food Hub. During the next years to come we will see Gino’s Sisig branches inside malls in Northern Luzon, and very soon in Quezon City.

Dealing with Business Competition. When Gino had stayed long enough in Luzon, he said he realized that clearly - not everyone can afford to have lechon on their dinner tables.  Saved for special occasions only, lechon is rare to many Filipino households.
A closer look! Check out their Facebook page here.
“This is why I decided to make our meals more affordable to everyone. [Because ] I want them to try the best-tasting cebu lechon without having to buy more than what they can consume and afford.” Gino stated. “Now, there is no need for a special occasion to enjoy lechon!”

A single meal order of lechon belly with rice costs Php89 only. Can you believe it? Plus you get to experience eating kamayan style! It’s what makes the eating experience more fun in Gino’s Sisig Tramo. Gino affirms that this definitely is not just a marketing strategy and it doesn’t apply within a promo period.

"The best Lechon de Cebu I've tasted so far." -Mayor Belen Fernandez, Mayor of Dagupan City.
According to Gino: "Competition is only tough when your vision is unclear and if you’re only working for yourself."

Jack Of All Trades

Yes it's true, we all have hidden talents! And sometimes, some circumstances in life make us reveal them to the world -one at a time or all at once. Join me in this journey as I enter the ever competitive world of beauty and makeup with these chosen primary weapons. *blows imaginary gun*

Real Techniques Base Brushes. This is my first set of brushes ever! Real Techniques is owned by Sam and Nic Chapman -they are sisters, professional makeup artists, and the duo behind a top Youtube channel. The function of this set is for complete coverage of base makeup. The core collection of the coverage essentials include:

From top to bottom | Photo by  © www.lvlygrey.com
(1) Buffing brush - UltraPlush bristles ideal for full coverage application of powder and mineral foundation.
(2) Detailer brush - precision cut to effortlessly conceal problem areas; or, use with lipstick for long lasting shape and definition.
(3) Pointed foundation brush - unique cut for use with liquid foundation to build custom coverage.
(4) Contour brush - delicately applies highlighter to the cheekbones for sheer, soft-focus contour.

I am so loving #RealTechniques brushes at the moment, and I can't wait to get my hands on the two other sets for the eyes and for finish. Real Techniques brushes have a reasonable price that is perfect for budding makeup artists like me.

NYX soft matte lip cream minis | Instagram @lvlygrey
NYX soft matte lip cream minis. These lippies may be little and cute but they are also sure to give you a nice soft matte finish when applied to your lips. The shades from the photo above include (1) Moscow; (2) Copenhagen; (3) Vancouver; (4) Nyx liquid suede - Foul Mouth; (5)Nyx liquid suede - Oh, Put It OnAll dark shades, suits me! Shelf lifeNyx liquid suede - six monthsNyx soft matte lip cream - eighteen months.

Another thing I like about NYX lippies is the fact that it doesn't make your lips feel like a desert, because of its cream base. You might just have to re-apply after every meal or after every heavy smooch!

L.A. Colors - 5 Color Matte Eyeshadow | Freebie from @classy.colours
L.A. Colors Matte Eyeshadow. I got this as a freebie from one of my trusted online shops, go check them out on Facebook and Instagram. I would have to rate L.A. Colors Matte Eyeshadow's pigment a 2.5/5. Because of the need to apply more product to see it's true color or shade. Hence this, I use this palette for a natural-looking "no-makeup" makeup look. Sabi nga nila, "A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor." So once or twice or even thrice in a makeup artist's career, he will use products that will challenge his skills and strategy. Wow! I'm imagining a reality show similar to Master Chef but with a twist, and I will call it Master Makeup Artist or Makeup Diva! Hahaha!

Time for swatch-ing! Love these shades so much!
I got excited swatch-ing these lippies! Here are some of my looks using NYX lippies: Vancouver, Copenhagen and Oh, Put It On. You can visit my Instagram for more photos. Follow me at @lvlygrey! My dream is to try to swatch more lippies in the future and collect limited edition items. I am currently in love with MAC matte lipsticks and Kylie liquid lipsticks. I also like combining shades for a more fierce or a more toned-down look. Maybe soon I'll try lip liners for achieving the perfect lip shapes!

My mission is to help those who can't afford expensive hair and makeup services. Nothing in life is free of course, I have to earn a living. But I also want to be the fairy godmother (with budget-friendly hair and makeup services) like the one from Cinderella. It is prom season here in the Philippines and I want to make some young girl's dream to attend the ball all dolled up, full of confidence, positive vibes and encouragement. I also don't mean to compete with any of my favorite makeup artists here, they are all super talented! Like my friends and idols, #CJCuisonGlamTeam - Ms CJ, Mommy Ryan and Ms Carlos! I've been their client too and they are the best here. Let us make this world a beautiful place by loving and supporting each other. I have yet to learn a lot and I'm not even sure if I'd pursue makeup artistry as my main bread and butter, I'm a jack of all trades and my attention span is short. So who knows? I'm just happy to add this to the list of skills that I can confidently say I can do.
So thank you for reading this post and remember,
JUST DREAM BIG!
