A Day With Team What's Up Dagupan

Hashtag squad goals!

We always hear this phrase whenever we see group of friends accomplishing something rad, or anything worth the envy. Like traveling outside the country together, finishing college together, or just basically doing things you all enjoy with just one goal in mind. For me and my team, FOOD IS LIFE!! And photography, and coffee, and social media too! We are the team behind What’s Up Dagupan, spearheaded by Simon Vistro. What’s Up Dagupan chronicles what’s hip and hot in Dagupan City. It is a compendium of the news, events, culture, food, arts, language and music of Region 1’s “Pandaragupan” or gathering place, the Longest Grill World Record Beaker and the Bangus Capital of the World – Dagupan City!

So what does it feel like going out with the team?

Last Saturday, we were invited to attend the soft opening of Gloria Maris Restaurant here in Dagupan City. The restaurant had a major revamp and it’s worth the five-month wait. Love the interiors especially the lighting, perfect for taking a selfie. They also added new dishes to their menu and we tried them all. Did you know that they now have pumpkin soup for appetizer? Okay, I admit that I didn’t want to try it at first as I’m not a big fan of the veggie. But to my surprise, the pumpkin soup even tasted better than the usual corn and mushroom. The tiny bits of seafood in it added a twist!

Then they served Spinach Tofu, which became an instant favorite of the group. Then came the super tender Shanghai Beef, Sweet Fire Chicken and Yang Chow Rice. But what excited me the most? The delectable Salted Egg Prawns! We see and hear salted eggs mixed with almost everything and turned into almost anything. Like Irvin’s salted egg potato chips and Fryday’s chicken wings with salted egg. But the Salted Egg Prawns by Gloria Maris Dagupan still tops my list. Just thinking of it makes my mouth water and my tummy growl. We took lots of photos of course, we want to be the first ones to share it with our friends. I took videos though, for my new baby VLOG on Youtube.

After our lunch, the boys had a relaxing spa session at Luxus Spa while I do some errands. We met again for dinner at Papi’s Grill – the first eat-all-you-can grill in Dagupan.

So wait there’s more! After our dinner, Mamu and Papu invited us to join them at the newly-opened Bo’sCoffee located along Jose De Venecia road C5 extension. Yes, the Bo’s Coffee of Manila is now in Pangasinan! Sir Simon and I tried Artisanal Choco drink, it’s made from pure cacao and it’s so tasty. We also had carrot cakes and s’mores brownie. I can’t wait for you to watch the whole video on my vlog!

Thank you Mamu and Papu for the coffee and cakes! (Bo's Coffee)

A day with #TeamWhatsUp is a day to remember! We did everything we loved doing, it was a care-free, stress-free kind of day. Follow our adventures on Facebook and Instagram! I can’t wait for our next trip, so lucky to be a part of this group promoting the city and the entire province one post at a time!
P.S. We miss you Senyorita Myx!

Where To Eat In Dagupan City: Tramo Food Hub

Where to eat in Dagupan City?

Welcome to the Bangus Capital of the world! While there is no doubt about how good and fresh the bangus are here, one still tends to ask, ‘Where to eat in Dagupan?’ This city’s gastronomic tourism has improved over the years and innovation is the only way up! There are lots of local restaurants where you can find yourself salivating and wow-ing on food taste and presentation. But if you haven’t quite decided yet, I suggest you drop by the new Tramo Food Hub just in front of Pantranco bus terminal along M.H. Del Pilar Street, Dagupan City.

Inspired by Baguio’s Ketchup Food Community, Tramo Food Hub offers wide variety of food and drinks to choose from. They have 16 food stalls in total, each serving up unique dishes. You can add twists but never the same dish, that’s number one rule!

Tramo from the word 'tram' - a rail vehicle. The location used to be one of the train stops of PNR (Philippine National Railway) back in 1970s.
For first time visitors, I personally suggest that you guys try Gino’s Sisig. For 79 pesos, you can have chicken / pork sisig, chicken inasal, lechon belly, and lechon manok – with two cups of rice each meal! Yep, sulit! And did I mention that you get to experience to eat using your hands? Filipino-Cebuano style!

I would also like to recommend Res.to J One’s best seller – Sinigang na Kalabaw! That’s sour soup with carabeef in English, ain’t it? Or nah? Haha! Anyway, you should try it for 200 pesos - good for sharing. Res.to J One also added a twist on the classic Pigar-pigar of Mangaldan and Dagupan. I am guessing they sprinkled a bit of cumin powder in it? Ahhh, must-try!

Early bird! Haha
Speaking of classics, Beats by Kuya Max offers bangus sisig and bistek max for 90 pesos each meal. Plus batchoy and lugaw (porridge)!

Kanto Boy is where you’ll find classic Filipino street foods: isaw, hotdog, pork barbeque, tenga ng baboy, kwek-kwek etc. at a price range of 8-30 pesos only!

If you’re seeking for new taste and healthier options, you won’t be disappointed with Opa! Greek Taverna. One of my absolute favorite from their menu is Chicken Souvlaki! Oh, I keep craving for it! Also try Roka Salad, see photo below.

Roka Salad by Opa! Greek Taverna
So from Greece, let’s go to Korea! Try Ajusshi Korean Shack‘s beef bulgogi, gimbap and kimchi! Annyeong-haseyo!!

The food industry is now crazy over salted eggs, so head on to Fryday’s food stall and order chicken wings with salted egg for the ultimate tasty treat!

Now aren’t you a little thirsty? Let The Hungry Panda conquer your thirst like how it conquered Tramo Food Hub. Almost everyone is lining up for its freshly-squeezed lemonade and mixed berry yogurt smoothie! But wait there’s more, The Hungry Panda offers fruit shakes, mixed fruit lemonades and fruit cups. Plus the Vietnamese sandwich Bahn Mi and Pizza bread! Watch my The Hungry Panda vlog here :)

The best lemonade in the city from The Hungry Panda
For manginginoms like me (haha) who likes to chill at Tramo Food Hub and listen to live acoustic music, Sides Grill and Raw Bar offers ice-cold local and imported beers! Last Christmas I was kinda sad because I miss my family and friends back in Singapore, so to cheer me up a bit I ordered Tiger Beer. It’s like Singapore’s national beer, so yeah, it kept me sane for a while. Anyway! Other alcoholic drinks available there include Asahi Beer, Evan Williams Bourbon, Brew Kettle Beer, Jack Daniels, and many more. Cheers!

The other Sides haha! Imported beers available here
To get updates and see more photos, head on to Tramo Food Hub’s Facebook page now! P.S. to other stalls I’ve not mentioned in this post, it only means I haven’t tried your food yet haha! Will update this na lang when I get to try yours na so don’t worry.

Tramo Food Hub is open every day from 3PM-11PM! I heard they’re plannning to open from nine in the morning na SOOOOOOON!

So guys.. thanks for reading, my Tramo Vlog will be up on my Youtube Channel next month!

The Mansamit Show 3

The annual year-end art exhibit of Biskeg Pangasinan was held last December 22-23 in cooperation with Panaderia de Antonio - Locale at JDV Calasiao Pangasinan and it's everything we needed to get on the pre-holiday vibe! The event featured the biggest mural in town, food market, bazaar, vintage car display, live music and poetry from professional and budding local artists.

I went there with my hommies Ate Mica of Senyorita.net, Sir Simon of What's Up Dagupan and Sir Mike F. of Pixelhub Creative. We started off by munching on whichever looks good, food stalls there offered crepes, halo-halo, lechon belly, barbecues, paella, pizzas and many more. But nothing tastes better compared to free food, so I'd like to make a shout out to my friend, artist, Jai Hernandez for the free snacks as starter. Haha!

Early bird haha!
Ate Mica and I walked around to document the affair for our mini video blog while also drinking mojitos baby. We talked to old friends and met new ones. Shout out to Lou Austria for dragging me up the stage for the "Bring Me" game where Mr. Pochacho (emcee & artist) asked to bring him the sexiest girl in the audience for the grand prize of [wait for it].. a face towel! Hahaha, charot! But what a way to break the ice, nice to meet y'all especially to Direk Noubikko Ray wooh!

My favorite saba and coconut milk halo-halo.
On the second day of The Mansamit Show 3, me and my high school classmates decided to have an all-girl mini reunion. Six of us chatted over food and Red Horse beer while listening to the eargasmic, acoustic voice of Ruth Anna and the Ulap band. We've watched intense emotional outburst from local poets and eventually parted later on with lots of selfies and group photos.

I joined the group of Patrick, the Biskeg Pangasinan artists, then. Free booze everywhere! It was fun until Pochacho reminded of the promise I made the day before. And so, I went on stage and sang with Ulap band. It was already late anyway, everyone's packing up and it were just us. I dedicated a song for Pochacho since I owed him that promise, no other shizzz intended. Hahaha. It was funny and scary, you guys didn't know I could sing noh? Char! Plus the booze really helped and I saw Direk Noubikko at the back todo suporta rin, encouraging me. So thank you again!

Full pack!
But guys!! The main highlight of this event is the art exhibit by our local artists. More than the Instagram-worthy pictures taken posing in front of the paintings -it is our support that is most appreciated. So make noise, buy their art, be inspired and become an inspiration.

For more info about the art exhibit, the artists and their works - go check out their Facebook page: Biskeg Pangasinan. It's 2017 and I am already looking forward for The Mansamit Show 4! Hope to meet new people and see more works there, plus international media coverage! Push!

Mansamit 3 Art Exhibit
P.S. for the next Locale - The Mansamit Show don't forget to bring with you fan and handkerchief, mukha lang tayong nasa ibang bansa but we're still in the Philippines guys. Mainit, haha! Plus power bank or charger for your phone and camera, trust me when I say every corner is so Instagrammable!
See you
